Whiteshire Hamroc and Tempel Genetics Discuss Progress in 2008
On March 5, 2008, Whiteshire Hamroc and Tempel Genetics hosted two producer meetings (one in Wabash and the other in Bloomington, Indiana). During these meetings producers heard how both swine genetic companies are working together to improve genetics, how we are both using gene markers to compliment our B.LU..P. selection indexes.
Additionally, we had guest speakers from Elanco Animal Health and Commodity & Ingredients Hedging (CIH). Elanco shared with producers different feeding strategies for Paylean and how it can help impact their bottom line. They also shared with the groups recommended animal handling methods which will assist in reducing penalties/discounts that normally occur during transporting to market.
CIH shared with the groups different risk management strategies that can be used to control input costs and marketing prices. They fielded several questions from the audiences which addressed both grain outlook and different risk exposure plans.
